Mermaids

Didn't have any special holiday or historic event today, so I was going to do a list with a swimming theme...then I got distracted by mermaids, so here we are!  Enjoy these ten young adult mermaid books.

Deep Blue by Jennifer Donnelly - When Serafina, a mermaid of the Mediterranean Sea, awakens on the morning of her betrothal, her biggest worry should be winning the love of handsome Prince Mahdi. And yet Sera finds herself haunted by strange dreams that foretell the return of an ancient evil. Her dark premonitions are confirmed when an assassin's arrow poisons Sera's mother. Now, Serafina must embark on a quest to find the assassin's master and prevent a war between the Mer nations. Book 1 of 4 in the Waterfire Saga

Emerge by Tobie Easton - Lia Nautilus may be a Mermaid, but she's never lived in the ocean. Ever since the infamous Little Mermaid unleashed a curse that stripped Mer of their immortality, war has ravaged the Seven Seas. Now Lia lives in a secret community of land-dwelling Mer hidden among Malibu's seaside mansions and attends high school with humans. To protect everyone around her, she must limit contact with non-Mer. No exceptions. But when the new girl sets her sights on Lia's crush, she will risk exposing her deadly secret to stop him from falling for the wrong girl.  Book 1 of 3 in the Mer Chronicles

Forbidden Sea by Sheila Nielson - One terrible, stormy night, Adrianne finds a mermaid trying to drown her sister. Adrianne fights to rescue her sister, and from then on, she is haunted by the sea creature's song, day and night. She has been marked by the mermaid.Adrianne knows that if she doesn't giver herself up to the sea, the mermaid will rain destruction down upon her island. However, things aren't what they seem, and Adrianne learns that death isn't awaiting her under the waves--rather, a watery paradise. Will she choose to turn her back on those she loves and all the hardships on land for a chance at freedom under the sea.  Book 1 of 2 in the Forbidden Sea series

Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs - Lily has a secret, and it's not her huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Lily's mermaid identity is a secret that can't get out, since she's not just any mermaid--she's a Thalassinian princess.
When she discovered three years ago that her mother was actually a human, Lily finally realized why she didn't feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she's been going to Seaview High ever since.
Living on land has its problems--like her obnoxious biker-boy neighbor, Quince Fletcher--but it has that one major perk: Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren't really the casual dating type--when they bond, it's for life.
When Lily's attempt to win Brody's love leads to a case of mistaken identity, she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily ever after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.  Book 1 of 3 in the Forgive My Fins series

Ingo by Helen Dunmore - By the Cornwall coast where Sapphire lives with her family, it's easy to hear the call of the sea. Too easy.
When the sea called to Sapphy's father, he vanished from her life. When the sea called to her brother, he started disappearing for hours on end. And now the sea is calling to Sapphy, and she feels its pull more strongly than she's ever felt anything in her life.
In a novel full of longing, mystery, and magic, Helen Dunmore takes us to a new world that has the power both to captivate and to destroy. At the waterline, the two worlds of Air and Ingo meet. Sapphy and her brother, Conor, find themselves at the boundary between these worlds, in a place of danger and amazing discoveries.  Book 1 of 5 in the Ingo Chronicles

Madigan - Lena has lived her whole life near the beach – walking for miles up and down the shore and breathing the salty air, swimming in the cold water, and watching the surfers rule the waves – the problem is, she’s spent her whole life just watching. As her sixteenth birthday approaches, Lena vows she will no longer watch from the sand: she will learn to surf. But her father – a former surfer himself – refuses to allow her to take lessons. After a near drowning in his past, he can’t bear to let Lena take up the risky sport. Yet something lures Lena to the water … an ancient, powerful magic. One morning Lena catches sight of this magic: a beautiful woman – with a silvery tail. Nothing will keep Lena from seeking the mermaid, not even the dangerous waves at Magic Crescent Cove. And soon … what she sees in the mermaid’s mirror will change her life …

Jade is determined to find out. So how does a plus-size, aqua-phobic mer-girl go about doing that exactly? And how will Jade ever be able to explain her secret to her best friend, Cori, and to her crush, Luke?

The pull of the water becomes as insistent as her attraction to Kai, a gorgeous surfer whose uncanny abilities hint at an otherworldly identity as well. And when Tempest does finally give in to the water's temptation and enters a fantastical underwater world, she finds that a larger destiny awaits her-and that the entire ocean's future hangs in the balance.  Book 1 of 3 in the Tempest series
