Evolution

On July 10th, 1925 the "Monkey Trial" begin in Tennessee.  Known more formally as The State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes, it was a legal case in which a substitute high school teacher, John T. Scopes, was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act, which banned the teaching of human evolution in any state-funded school.  Scopes was found guilty and fined $100, but the verdict was overturned on a technicality.  The Butler Act was not repealed in Tennessee until 1967.  Here are ten modern works on evolution. 

Ancestors in Our Genome: The New Science of Human Evolution by Eugene Harris - In 2001, scientists were finally able to determine the full human genome sequence, and with the discovery began a genomic voyage back in time. Cuckoo: Cheating By Nature by Nick Davies - How does the cuckoo get away with laying its eggs in the nests of other birds and tricking them into raising young cuckoos rather than their own offspring? Early observers who noticed a little warbler feeding a monstrously large cuckoo chick concluded the cuckoo's lack of parental care was the result of faulty design by the Creator, and that the hosts chose to help the poor cuckoo. Darwin's Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design by Stephen Meyer - Charles Darwin knew that there was a significant event in the history of life that his theory did not explain.
